At approximately 3AM last night, I sent payments to three “random” email addresses via my business PayPal account (and those transactions were labeled as transfers to friends and family rather than as purchases for products and services). Each of those payments except for the last one was refunded. This was apparently to cover the shipping cost of the “free” sample my Instagram friend (John Tichock (@victoryi18)) wanted to ship to me from Oregon. This morning I learned that the MasterCard (which I used to pay the transfer fees) was disabled due to suspected fruadulent transactions. I called my bank (Patelco) and, after being on hold for the customer support line, I was able to talk to live human agents who verified my identity and then were able to unfreeze my debit card. (Before that happened, I tried transferring $10 from the $28 which was in my Patelco checking account to my Wise debit card balance (but the transaction was not showing up on the Patelco website bank transaction history and neither was the PayPal transfer of $40 from my personal PayPal account to my Patelco checking account)). I tested both my Wise debit card and my Patelco debit card at the Whole Foods Market by purchasing food and both cards appear to be working normally. In the future (if I do “shady” online business (such as to buy things off dark web markets using The Onion Router and a Virtual Private Network, I will probably use cryptocurrency (which I purchase using the money I earn from working a normal W-2 job) instead of cash for those transactions).
Note that after filing a claim that with PayPal that I did not authorize those three payments, the money I sent appears to be returned to my bank account.
